Recently I was watching some programming on You Tube. I discovered SLUG TV at first I thought this just another attempt to spread the gospel online but I realized it was more, because the story behind the broadcast. I checked out the host on Facebook and My Space and I learned they had a powerful testimony I discovered that Lady Roo’s family had been effected by violence and drugs. Her father was killed when she five years old and this affected her mother who turned to drugs to cope. Because of her mother’s involvement with drugs, Lady Roo’s mother went to prison. In Prison her mother got sober and developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Lady Roo’s mother realized how good God was despite her circumstance and she began to share about God with her daughter in her letters. Lady Roo had already began to turn her life around. She had quit selling drugs, found a steady job and moved from her old neighborhood. After she started attending church her children noticed a change in her and when she got baptized they were ready to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior too.
After Lady Roo’s mother was released from prison they started attending church together. Lady Roo asked her co-worker Slugger Roo to give them a ride to church because they didn’t have transportation. One Sunday he decided instead of just dropping them off to he would attend church service too. He got saved and the following year he became Lady Roo’s husband.
Slugger Roo had been a part of a church as a youth. At 12 he left the church when he became a Vice Lord ( gang banger).
Now Lady Roo and Slugger are in prison ministry. I think her story would make an excellent book that could be turned into a movie.

Dear Mr. Williams, I just wanted to thank you and your wife so very much for praying with my sister and her husband as they went out on Sat. Aug. 18th to win souls for our Lord Jesus Christ.....You and your wife made a lasting impression on my sister.... She usually is a very shy person and yesterday I feel thanks to you taking the time to pray for them before they ventured out, the boldness of the Holy Spirit came on her and she won souls for the Kingdom.....Today in church she got up in front of the congregation and spoke about all her experiences and there was such a boldness in her I have never seen before it made my mom cry..... My sister loves the Lord with all her heart but usually doesn't express her feelings and the things she does very often.......... thank you for being there for her......... My wife and I were invited to minister at the Farmington Facility. We were there all day from 8am to the last service at 6pm. We told our testimony,prayed and you know we ministered in R.A.P. It was awesome they were ready get Jesus!!! The 1st service was a nice crowd ,but the second was Packed!! It was about 500 or more men on the yard at one time.

We did it with no fear! We can relate to them, a woman said "yall walk around like yall ain't scared of nothing" we said we ain't we had no security or nothing but little whistles so if we got attack they would have hurt us real bad before help could save us ,but when God sends you he will protect you!

We built friendships while we were there because they seen us all day and it made their day to have visitors. Some haven't had a letter or a visit in a long time. In closing it was awesome men got free,saved and healed.Glory to God. Continue to pray for our captives in Prison.

Praise the Lord, this is just a testimony how God can save who ever he wants. My wife and I were invited to Vandalia,Mo by Lady Ella Warren (the wife of Bishop E.L.Warren www.cow-elw.com ) .To make a long story short we were praying for this day for some time now one prayer that I was praying was that 10 souls be saved. I ministered in rap to Kick it off that was after Pastor Dave opened up and the ladies sang songs to the Lord, one ladie done a praise dance.

So after I told my testimony and rap 2 songs it was time for the WORD. We got the women to scream "I can make it!" After that they were anticipating the word. We came from Galations 6:7-10.It was awesome ladies got delivered ,healed from past experiences ,but most of all the prayer for 10 souls came to past I bless the name of the Lord for manifesting that. We had the faith to believe God to allow his spirit to move on those 10 women. One of those women I grew up with. I haven't seen her since middle school and she was the first woman I seen when we entered the prison I asked her " are you coming to join us" she said she don't know but after about 30 minutes into service I looked up and she was in the service. She got her breakthough because she got saved! Glory to God. So I just had to share that ,that was awesome how God can use anybody. God bless, SLUGGER ROO ENT!!!

“When they invite you to go praise in a club, don’t always say no,” Praiz’ was saying to Slugger Roo.

“That’s why I call my thing ‘Parking Lot Praiz Beats.’ We do it in the street or in the church. I hate to sing ‘Deliver Me’ in the church - that’s just preaching to the choir.”

Slugger Roo was really taking that in and nodding, in gradual agreement.

“We’ve got to represent who we are,” Praiz’ said.


“I’m going to take what you said to heart,” Slugger Roo said.

“I’m way too confident in who I am as a Christian to worry about walking into a club,” Praiz’ continued. “If 50 Cent walked into your church, he’s still going to be 50 Cent, right? If you and me can get on Extreme Bling, let’s go!”

Slugger Roo laughed with Praiz, then said, “That makes it all so clear.”

They were sitting across from each other at a restaurant bar, drinking soda, with me in between them, enjoying a beer.




Praiz’ - whose pop gospel single “Deliver Me” tore up St. Louis as an independent, on the strength of its Quiet Storm feel and simple message (“Oh Lord, deliver me from myself”) - was visiting this past weekend from Tallahassee, where he is musical director for a young church.

Slugger Roo had driven over from the East Side to meet Praiz’ while he was in town. I consider him the heir apparent to Praiz’ for local gospel hip-hop (putting aside Marcus T. Flame, whose game is national). I wanted to put them together, see them connect.

Slugger Roo is a self-confessed former gangbanger, who still has a certain swagger from the streets, not to mention gold in his mouth, some bling on his fingers and shiny tips on his braids.

Praiz’, on the other hand, looks like the laid-back, hard-to-impress family man that he is. But he has been grinding on pop gospel for years and has experienced success at a level that Slugger Roo only has begun to glimpse.

“The best thing,” Praiz’ said, “is the women who come up to you after you have performed and say, “The Lord told me you’re my husband. And I say, ‘Did he tell you about my wife, too?’”

Slugger Roo was on fire with Christ and the urgent need to testify - but he also seemed a little agitated about the surprisingly competitive gospel music scene and how hard it can be to break into it.

“I could care less about competition,” Praiz’ said. “If I can’t be on stage, then I don’t need to be on stage. Right now, it seems like I’ve got something to say, so He’s using me.”

Slugger Roo nodded, taking it in, knowing that in one weekend Praiz’ had just been on every major gospel stage on both sides of the river. Now he was going to go back home to Tallahassee, lay low, lead worship services, raise his four kids.

The veteran and the relative newcomer talked shop on CD manufacturers, iTunes, CD Baby, logos, T-shirts.

Slugger Roo had brought Praiz’ a copy of his new CD, and Praiz’ was impressed that dude had done his own logo and graphic design. Slug, on the other hand, was impressed that Praiz’ made many of his own beats. It looked like an unofficial beat-for-logo exchange might be worked out down the road, and who knows what else. They programmed each other’s cell phone numbers into their phones.

Above all, Praiz’ cautioned a fellow independent against the industry side of gospel music.

“The longer you can keep doing it by yourself, the better,” Praiz’ said. “The longer you can keep spending your own money, you’re good.”
